Gunman kills 4 in Sapele
Delta, State News Monday, March 19th, 2012A gunman, on Saturday night, went berserk in Sapele and killed four persons who were drinking in a bar located at 67, Macpherson road, opposite Okotie-Eboh Grammar School.
The incident, which took place at about 8.30 p.m., threw the town into a state of confusion.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the deceased were in the bar when a vehicle screeched to a halt in front of it and a young man brandishing an AK 47 rifle alighted from it.
“Immediately he alighted from the vehicle, he raised his AK 47 rifle and sprayed the people with bullets. Four persons died on the spot while others sustained severe gunshot injuries,” a security source disclosed.
The injured victims were taken to the General Hospital from where two of them were referred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH)
Nigerian Tribune investigation revealed that the dead were a bank manager, the wife of a car dealer, a staff of FirstBank and a yet-to-be identified man.
“The gunmann did not rob anybody. He only shot those in the bar ,” an eyewitness said.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Charles Muka, confirmed the incident.
He said the police had commenced investigations aimed at apprehending the culprits and unravelling the reason for their action.
“We will definitely apprehend the killers. It is very sad that such a thing can happen in Sapele which is considered to be a peaceful town,” he added.
