I am comfortable with INEC–Akunyili
Anambra, Elections 2011, INEC Politics, State News Saturday, April 16th, 2011Former Minister of Information and Communication and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Professor Dora Akunyili, yesterday walked into a warm embrace of party supporters in the boundary town of Amansea where she declared that whatever decision Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) takes in the impasse in respect of the election which it has called for a run-off, she is comfortable with it.
Before her arrival, on her way to Awka, Anambra State capital, thousands of party faithful and supporters had gathered at the border town with dances and 20 rounds of cannon shots went off as she alighted from her vehicle.
Akunyili thanked the supporters for keeping the peace and refusing to be provoked by the announcement of her opponent, Dr. Chris Ngige, as winner of the election, insisting that it was meant to spark off riots.
She wondered why Ngige would be resisting run-off if he claimed he did better in insisting that a popular person would not take such stand.
She declared: “ I still trust INEC because it has organised a good election.
We are hopeful that after their instigation the election, the truth will come out. I am comfortable with INEC’s decision whether it declares me winner or calls for run-off because it is the same voters that will vote. If you are popular, you can’t be frightened if INEC proposes a run-off,” Akunyili said.
