Former director of military intelligence, General Letam Wiwa, has again, restated that he was never arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In response to a story entitled “Ex-DMI, General Wiwa, arrested,” which was published in Daily Sun of Monday, February 15, 2015, Major General Letam W. Wiwa, through his solicitors, denied the report of his arrest by the EFCC.
A letter dated February 15, 2016 and addressed to the Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Publishing Limited, signed by Dr. Joseph Nwobike (SAN ) of Joseph Nwobike (SAN) & Co. on behalf of Major General Wiwa reads in part: “Our client has informed us that he was never, arrested and/or detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and/or taken to their Abuja Office for further investigation as alleged in your publication under reference.”
Editor’s note:
At the time of going to press with the story on General Wiwa, we had no cause to doubt the information therein.
However, fresh facts have shown that our sources misled us.
We sincerely apologise to General Wiwa for the embarrassment the report may have caused him.
