Imo State Govt. Press Release: Ember months – Imo State govt. task road users on safety

EMBER MONTHS: IMO GOVT TASKS ROAD USERS ON SAFETY
The Imo State Government has advised all road users in the state to respect rules and regulation stipulated under the law to avoid preventable accident as a result of recklessness.
 
Secretary to the Government of Imo State (SGI), Sir Jude Ejiogu gave this warning while flagging off the 2015 Federal Road Safety Corps for Ember Months with the theme, “OPERATION SANITY: DRIVING SAFELY INTO YEAR 2016 at Chukwuma Nwoha Junction, Egbu Road on behalf of the State Government
The flag off occasion attracted crème de la crème of reputable personalities from the Nigerian Police, military and paramilitary establishments in Nigeria.

In a keynote address delivered while flagging off the programme, Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Sir Jude Ejiogu maintained that over the years, the FRSC has done credibly well to keep Road Traffic Crashes and attendant casualties in check, saying that the commission has deployed every available resources through viable programmes and strategies towards creating a serene motoring environment.
 
Sir Ejiogu, who hinged on the theme of the occasion, further said that the vision cannot be achieved by mere wish but through robust efforts geared towards respecting laid down road rules and regulations.
 
The SGI while speaking further stressed that the Imo State Government frowns at the attitude and recklessness of drivers on the roads, regretting that majority of the defaulters do not possess valid Driver’s License, and called on them to have a change of attitude.

He therefore commended FRSC for not only responding promptly to distress situations, but also to be proactive with preventive measures to forestall ugly incidents, and suggested that patrol of the highways to check over-speeding and reckless driving as well as regular check on vehicles should be enhanced to save more lives.
 
Delivering his Ember Months address, Sector Commandant of FRSC in Imo State, Dr. Godwin Omiko stated that the flag off was to sensitize all road users on the need to be cautious in driving, and warned drivers to shun any act of recklessness, over-speeding or drink and driving.
He there advised them to respect road signs and avoid going beyond the limit of their vehicles, stressing that there was no need for anyone to lose his or her life as a result of reckless driving when it would have been saved if caution was applied.
