Impeachment: Ebonyi founding fathers meet Assembly members

By Peter Okutu

ABAKALIKI—Founding fathers of Ebonyi State yesterday met with members of the State House of Assembly over the impeachment crisis that had trailed the legislature in the last one week.

The meeting, which lasted over four hours, was held in efforts by the founding fathers to broker peace in the House.
All members of the House, irrespective political interest and affinity to any stakeholder in the state, attended the meeting.

The meeting which was held amidst tight security, ended with many people in the state speculating on the possible decision reached on the impeachment saga.
Vanguard learnt that the founding fathers used the opportunity of the meeting to hear from the new female speaker, Helen Nwobasi, and impeached speaker, Chukwuma Nwazunku, on the circumstances surrounding the whole exercise in the state.

A source at the meeting revealed that the new leadership of the State House of Assembly told the founding fathers that the impeachment of the former speaker remained irreversible and irrevocable.
However, a source, however, said the founding fathers pleaded with the new leadership of the House to reverse the impeachment of Nwazunku and convert it to a resignation notice.

At the time of filing this report, other issues discussed at the meeting was still sketchy as it was further gathered that the founding fathers told them (House members) that in no distance, they will again be communicated on their resolution.
