India embassy declares hassle-free visa regime

THE India High Commissioner, Mr. Mahesh Sachdev, has disclosed that the Indian High Commission is neck deep in its efforts to ensure that it maintains a hassle-free visa regime for Nigerians who intend to migrate to the Republic of India for study purposes.

Sachdev who was speaking during the Indian Education Expo, organized by Chartered Exhibitions and Media Private Limited, at the premises of the India High Commission, Lagos, stated: “This is part of the High Commissions effort to achieve a progressive bilateral cooperation in education with the people and government of Nigeria.”

A generation of Nigerians have fond memories of being taught by Indian teachers and professors and this is why the Commission has collaborated with some of the Indian universities, such as SRM University, with Samiullah Khan as Head, Middle East and Africa, Galgotias University, Symbiosis International University, among others to engage relevant Nigerian stakeholders on ways to collaborate for synergy in content development, exchange of faculties and joint ventures.”

Having noted that higher studies courses in India are becoming increasingly popular with Nigerian students due to many factors, such as credible well-organized and relevant degrees, competitive costs, similar social and climate conditions, the high commissioner, therefore, encouraged inter-educational relationship between the two countries.

The participating Indian universities at the education expo he disclosed, will also showcase some of the Indian graduate and postgraduate courses in engineering, medicine and other programs to the eligible Nigeria students. And with the view of prioritizing education in Nigeria, the Commission promises swift processing/ issuance of study visa to all interested Nigeria scholars to Indian universities

He said: “The High Commission is pleased to note that bilateral cooperation in education has had a proud history and remains a priority, and a large number of Nigerians alumni of Indian Universities and academic institutions are currently contributing at various levels in Nigerian public life and economy.”
