INEC Re-admits 12 Parties
Elections 2011, INEC Politics Saturday, February 5th, 2011WITH barely 48 hours to the date of the official publication of the list of candidates submitted by political parties, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said yesterday that it had re-admitted about 12 of the 20 political parties, whose submissions were rejected earlier this week.
In a statement yesterday in Abuja , the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Umenger said the gesture was part of the magnanimous response of the commission to the plea of some of the affected parties. The forms CF001 and CF002 of those political parties were rejected on Monday, because they were submitted later than the 6.pm deadline.
But the commission warned the political parties that it would adhere strictly to the deadlines in the Schedules of Electoral Act in respect of the April general election. Eleven of the parties which had all of their nominations rejected were re-admitted, while one party which had its nominations for only Gombe State was re-admitted.
The 11 parties included African Democratic Congress (ADC); Progressive Action Congress (PAC); Advanced Congress of Democrats (ADC); Action Alliance (AA); Justice Party ((JP) and Nigerian Advanced Party (NAP).
Others include Freedom Party of Nigeria (FPN); Democratic Peoples Party (DPP); Kowa Party (KP); Nigerian Peoples Congress (NPC) and National Majority Democratic Party (NMDP). The Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ) had its nominations for Gombe State re-admitted.
