Insecurity: ACN declares Bayelsa primary result in Rivers

The Action Congress of Nigeria on Friday declared the result of its governorship primaries in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, following the level of insecurity in Bayelsa State.

The party had declared a former Commissioner for Housing, Chief Ayakeme Whisky, the winner of the governorship primaries, having defeated three other aspirants.

Whisky, who spoke with newsmen in Port Harcourt shortly after he was named the ACN governorship candidate for the Bayelsa governorship election, said members of the party’s Election Committee left Yenagoa in a hurry as a result of the poor security situation in the state.

The governorship candidate recalled how the supporters of the former Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and a governorship candidate, Mr. Timi Alaibe, were attacked by youths suspected to be political thugs.

Explaining that six persons died in the incident, Whisky added that such incidents prompted the members of the election panel to leave the state in a hurry.

“(Mr. Timi) Alaibe went to his country home to interface with his people. Thugs went there and unleashed mayhem. Six persons died in that incident. This is part of the reasons those who came to conduct our primaries left in a hurry,” Whisky noted.

He, however, promised to get the youths engaged if he won the forthcoming governorship election, adding that if the youths were into meaningful ventures, politicians would not be able to persuade them to embrace violence.wp_posts
