Anambra: Irregularities mar election
Anambra, Elections 2011, State News Tuesday, April 26th, 2011NITSHA – The national and state assembly poll in Anambra state was Tuesday, marred by alleged irregularities following reports of missing ballot boxes, ballot papers and result sheets in some polling units and stations.
In Ukpor ward 5, Nnewi south local government, a supervisory presiding officer whose name was not made known was arrested by the police for allegedly having removed some original sheets from the result sheet booklet.
Speaking to newsmen, the Accord candidate for Nnewi north and south federal constltuency, Hon. C.I.D Maduabum said elections could not hold at Ukpor ward 2 because electoral materials did not only arrive late but some of the materials for the state Assembly election were missing.
According to him there was a grand design by the APGA and some electoral officers to rig the election in his own area.
At Aguata, the story was worse as the electorate and stakeholders insisted that the election be cancelled since as at 2pm materials had not left the INEC office in Aguata.
The PDP candidate for Aguata federal constituency, Mr Chike Anyaonu who spoke to reporters on the development said there was a deliberate attempt by the EO and APGA to rig the re run election in the two wards, Umuchu 1 and Jgboukwu 1.
