Jigawa denies allegation on funds spent on polls

DUTSE — The Jigawa State Government has account to prosecute the recently-concluded general elections in the state, describing the allegations about such expenditure by the opposition as spurious.

The state Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Salisu Mamuda, reacting to insinuations, said there was no iota of truth in the allegation which he described as not only malicious but deceptive and capable of tarnishing the reputation of the government.

Mamuda, however, said the government would not be deterred from providing social amenities to the people as such were part of its contract with the electorate and humanity.

He also explained that people of Jigawa State voted en masse for the ruling People’s Democratic Party,PDP, because, they were satisfied with what the government of Sule Lamido had done for them in terms of provision of social amenities, such as good roads, housing , revitalization of the collapsed education sector, provision of good drinking water, health facilities and revitalisation of the civil service among others.

Mahmuda further noted that the secret behind the victory of the PDP in all the elections in the state was nothing other than honesty, transparency, accountability, good governance and judicious use of public resources by Governor Lamido, adding that these qualities had endeared him to the people of the state.

According to him, Gov. Lamido met an empty treasury when he got into office four years ago just as there was nothing on the ground in terms of structural development, pointing out that the past regime in the state decentralized ministries with a view to creating confusion and expressed happiness that Lamido merged them and brought all the departments back to Dutse the state capital and eventually trimmed down the numbers  from 40 to 15.

He advised the opposition to challenge elections results at the election Tribunal if they were not satisfied with their outcome.
