JNI Denies Meeting with Obasanjo
Olusegun Obasanjo (1976-79, 99-07), Presidency Monday, September 19th, 2011
Former Olusegun Obasanjo
Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has said there was no meeting between Muslims in Jos and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as was reported in the media.
Muslims in Jos, Plateau State, Sunday broke their silence over reports that they were involved in a peace meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying they were unaware of the purported peace meeting called by the former President.
In a press statement signed by its secretary, Alhaji Alhassan Shu’aibu, JNI said: “It is unfortunate that such meetings which might have intended to generate peace and harmony within the communities could not be properly organised.
Plateau State JNI was not aware of the meeting and no invitation to that effect was extended to us. For an important meeting of that magnitude, if proper channel had been followed, it would have been attended by some executive members of JNI”.
