Jonathan has insulted S/West again – Tinubu
National Politics, South-West Tuesday, February 15th, 2011
DESPITE President Goodluck Jonathan’s clarifications of the statement he made about the South-West geopolitical zone, on Monday, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) chieftain, Senator Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, fired back at the president, saying with his statement, that he had only insulted the South-West.
While Jonathan had mentioned on the Facebook that people from the South-West region were the most educated and enlightened, Tinubu, during an interview with airport journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, said the president was wrong in his judgment as regards the calibre of the South-West governors who were not from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Tinubu reacted saying: ”That is an insult to our parents; you don’t come to this land, seek our votes and then insult our parents that they raised rascals.”
Reacting to the controversial picking of former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as the running mate of ACN presidential candidate, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Tinubu though described her as a very qualified person but added that she might be too busy to take up such position.
His words: “She is a very qualified individual and she is an asset; she is an asset to the nation, an asset to Africa and international community, and no doubt about that. But you don’t know whether she is even free now.
“We have so much to gain from her, intellectually, in her character and professionally and for our reputation all over the world, so it doesn’t mean that she will serve the country better as a running mate to anybody.”
