Jonathan to swear-in Musdpaher Monday as acting CJN

As the tenure in office of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu ends this midnight when he clocks 70 years, it has been gathered that President Goodluck Jonathan will swear-in Justice Dahiru Musdpaher as acting CJN tomorrow (Monday).

Musdpaher had been recommended to Jonathan by the National Judicial Council (NJC) as Katsina-Alu’s successor, but he would have to wait for screening and confirmation by the senate before he could be appointed in substantive capacity.

In order not to allow for a vacuum at the helms of the arm of government, it was learnt at the weekend that plans are underway for Musdpaher to be sworn-in in acting capacity tomorrow despite the very busy schedule of the president who is battling with the aftermath of the terror attack on the Nited Nations building in Abuja which had been attracting global outrage.

A top source in the system told the Sunday Tribune that the sallah holiday on Tuesday and Wednesday made it imperative for the swearing-in to hold tomorrow, because any failure for that to happen, would leave the judiciary without no headship for 96 hours which could aggravate the crisis in the arm of government.

A statement issued by the Supreme Court and signed by its Chief Registrar, Sunday Olorundahunsi confirmed the swearing-in which he said would hold by 10 am at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Notice to that effect was also said to have been issued to all the justices of the apex court.
