Mass turnout in Kano as security arrest persons with 500 ballot papers, dane guns

THE national assembly election took place in the 44 councils of Kano State without any known case of violence and breach of the peace.

Despite the mass turn out which took many by surprise, there were cases of three persons arrested with 500 ballot papers at Minjibir, Gejawa council of the state.

At about the same time in the same area, an unidentified staffer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was nabbed with electoral materials not meant for the location where he was arrested.

There was also the case of an unidentified man nabbed with a dane gun at a security point stationed at Gwale within the kano metropolis.

At Giginyu ward where the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate cast his vote at about 12.30 pm, a youngster who attempted to breach the peace was also arrested by stern looking security men.

Moments after Shekarau voted, thousands of voters that had been duly accredited took turns to cast their votes amidst tight security.

The situation is not different at the Kawaji/Girjiya ward where the enthusiasm exhibited by the kano voting population was clearly on display.

In this center, as early as 7 a .m, married women, men, the aged as well as youths peaceably took turns to get accreditation in readiness to cast their votes.

The situation is not different at Fagge ward B, where the Governorship candidate of the Congress for progressive change (CPC) cast his vote as women took mats, food and water along to the polling booth to ensure they took part in the electioneering process.

As early as 7 a. m, the personnel of the joint security team comprising soldiers, air force, police and paramilitary outfits mounted road blocks, restricted vehicular movements and even searched owners of vehicles all in a bid to ensure kano is at peace.
