Kebbi: Senator floats N100m employment scheme

The re-elected senator for Kebbi Central District, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, has inaugurated a N100m youth and women employment programme.
Bagudu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, that any unemployed youth within his senatorial district would benefit from the programme irrespective of state of origin.
He said the decision to expand the scheme in which his family had been spending about N40m anually was taken at a meeting.
“The programme will provide training on job creation, skills acquisition for the unemployed after which they will be provided with financial support to establish self-reliant ventures,” he said.
Bagudu said he had met with thousands of unemployed youths and women and modalities for the prompt take off of the training programme would commence as soon as beneficiaries were identified.
Maori Ubale, an expectant beneficiary, said the programme was worthy of emulation by the government and the private sector, adding, “I thank God my joblessnesss will soon be over”.
She said she would form a women group with a view to training housewives on how to improve the economic status of their families.
“A lot of us who are unmarried and jobless have heaved a sigh of relief since the expansion of the programme was announced,” she added.
Mallam Aminu Maigari, a commercial motorcycle operator, said he would acquire skills through the programme to enable him become self-employed.
