Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Muhammed Abubakar, has promoted the junior corporals to sergeants and left the senior corporals behind. The others are waiting for the IG to release their signal for corporal to sergeant course in order to meet up with their colleagues. Instead, what we heard is, order from the IG that they should wear the rank. Is the IG condoning discipline or indiscipline in the police force? Will he expect the senior corporals giving compliments to junior corporals? I urge the IG to insist that those personnel in the administration department only send the merit list whenever they are asked to do so, and not to send the names of their brothers and sisters alone. When a former IGP, Mr. Mike Okiro, now of the Police Service Commission, approved general promotion in 2009, we were expecting the current IGP to clear the outstanding 2009 corporal to sergeant, sergeant to inspector promotions according to their intake in seniority. We appeal to the IG to release the next batch of 2009 intakes to proceed to their various course training colleges, and when they finish the course to be backdated in order to boost their morale in discharging their duties.
