Letter: Kidnapping in Anambra

The editor, kindly allow me a small space in your widely read on-line paper
to commend Governor Peter Obi on the marvellous job the state is doing to make sure kidnapping does not exist any more. In addition to pulling down the structures of these nefarious people, the state should introduce other form of humiliating punishment to make sure no one ever thinks of such a measure as a means of making it BIG in life.
May I suggest that the culprit should be brought to a public field and tied
to the stake for atleast 3 days so that every one who care to know the traitor
will have the opportunity to view him or her. Many of us outside the country seem to be receiving the shock these nefarious idiots are creating on the citizenry. Apart of stalling our zeal to visit home and be with our loved ones, we cannot aspire to put up structures because the atmosphere is not conducive for such ventures. I know of many who nurtured the intention of visiting home to search for girls to marry, with this scenario of uncertainty, many changed their minds and settle for our girls here which is a different ball game. Others shift their investments to other more secure states to put up structures that would have been put up in one’s fatherland.
It is when one attends our various town meetings that it begins to dawn on
any body the damage being done to our country and more to our villages by these hoodlums.
In the community that I belong, ABATETE, IN IDEMILI NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, each member is mandated to contribute at least $100 every year to augment the SECURITY LEVY of our town. We have provided patrol vehicles, walkie- talkie and other gadgets to ensure that our people and property are safe.
At 74, I would have longed to be home in my house and live out the remaining portion of my golden years but these hoodlums have made the zone unsafe. I take this opportunity to persuade the president of Nigeria, Mr Goodluck Azikiwe Ebele Jonathan to focus more on security along with the distasteful activities of the BOKO HARAM. I am one of those who believe it is time to partner with other developed countries of the world to assist our country get back to STABILITY. The way things are, we are only trying to eek out a living in the midst of great uncertainties.
Chief Ugonnia Mike S. Chukwuelue writes from Texas, USA.
