Madagascar police chief swims 12 hours in the Indian Ocean after helicopter crash
Africa & World Politics, NNP News Thursday, December 23rd, 2021(NNP) Madagascar police chief, Gen. Serge Gelle, 57, the secretary of state for the gendarmerie swims 12 hours in the Indian Ocean after a boat accident that killed 83 people. The police chief was on a rescue helicopter and had accompanied the prime minister who was in a different helicopter when the copter hit rough weather and crashed. Authorities say the boat which had a total of 193 passengers on board, was not authorized to carry passengers. Water had flooded the engine causing it to submerge in the ocean. The police chief was found by fishermen who carried him ashore in a canoe.
