Amiddle-aged man (name withheld) yesterday died in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State while allegedly having sex with a female student of the state university. The incident, which happened in the girl’s room near Presco campus of the university threw residents into confusion as some students ran out of their hostels for fear of arrest.
A source told the Daily Sun that the man died inside the room of the student located on Goddy Ogbaga Avenue during a romp with the girl.
It was gathered that the student carried the lifeless body of the man into his car before she reported the tragedy to the police.
She was said to have been arrested immediately and currently helping the police in the investigation.
The source said: “It threw the entire hostel residents into confusion as everybody began to run helter-skelter to evade police arrest. Some of the hostel residents have been arrested by police.
“I did not know what was happening until policemen stormed our hostel and began to arrest everybody at sight. But from what I heard, the man visited the girl and in the process of making love, he died.
“I cannot say for sure if the man was a mere acquaintance to the girl or not. All I can say for sure is that I have not seen the man visiting the girl in the past.
“I cannot say I know the girl very well because our hostel is very large. It is a three-storey building and many students live there. I do not know who is who except my friends. So, I cannot say with certainty that I know the name of the girl, department or her level in school.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Chris Anywanu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), confirmed the incidentt but said he had not been fully briefed.
“Currently, I have no details about the incident. I just made enquiry and I was told it happened at Goddy Ogbaga Avenue. I have not got any other information about it,” the PPRO stated.
