Mark advocates stronger public, private partnership

Senate President, David Mark, on Tuesday reviewed the dwindling fortune of the nation’s economy and called for stronger public and private sectors participation to salvage the situation.

Mark, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, stated this when the executive members of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited him in Abuja,

Mark said such a collaboration would get the ailing economy out of the woods.Senator Mark also requested the organised private sector to participate in the policy initiation and formulation so that implementation or execution would not be a challenge.

He stressed the need for continuity of government policies just as he decried a situation where good policies were jettisoned on account of the end of a tenure of the previous administration.

He said, “Good policies no matter who initiated them must be sustained by the succeeding administration irrespective of different political affiliations.

“Tribe or religion must not affect the implementation of good policies. There is the need for Nigerians to participate in government because we want democracy not just to be representational but participatory in Nigeria.”

The Deputy President of LCCI, Dr. Nike Akande, briefed the Senate President on the forthcoming conference on the state of the economy of the nation, slated for September 25, 2014 in Lagos State.
