Minimum wage: No work, no pay, Gov Obi insists

The Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi has insisted on his administration’s no work no pay policy for striking workers in the state, even as he warned them that government would not renege on its promise.

According to Governor Obi, the new law regarding the current ongoing strike in the state would be implemented to serve as deterrent to the workers, who had been threatening to go on strike over the controversial minimum wage.

The governor, who said this yesterday in Onitsha, added that he would implement the law, especially now that he did not understand why civil servants in the state should go on strike, even when he had paid the minimum wage more than what most states paid.

On the general development in the state, Obi maintained that he had done more in Anambra State than all other governors, adding that beyond building of roads, his government had also touched all other sectors of the economy.

On gratuity, the governor said:“Today, it takes two months after retirement for civil servants to be paid their gratuities,” he said.
The governor also vowed that he would continue to take unpopular actions and called on the people of the state to shun selfishness and embrace those things that would be of benefit to the state and her people.
Recalling his efforts towards attracting foreign investors into the state, the governor disclosed that a company was already building its biggest facility in the state worth over N20 billion and that more companies were also signifying interest to invest in the state.wp_posts
