NAFDAC Arrests Foreign Killer Doctors In KadunaThe National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday paraded two alleged killer doctors involved in the dispensing of unregistered drugs in Panbeguwa area of Kaduna State.

The suspects, who are both nationals of Cameroon, according to NAFDAC, came into the country over a month ago and had since been engaging in their nefarious activities in Panbeguwa. They were apprehended by the NAFDAC operatives following a tip-off.

Speaking at the agency’s laboratory unit in Kaduna, the director-general, Dr. Paul Orhii, stated that “if I were somebody who was selling fake drugs, Kaduna would be the last place to come, because Kaduna office is very active; they will pick you up”.

Orhii, who paid an unscheduled visit to the unit and took out time to inspect some of the facilities in the unit, noted that “we have a system in place; when people give us information we pay for it. The person who gave tips that led to the interception of these fake doctors will have some reward. The person will be recommended to me privately and we will pay him some money”.

He added: “We arrested them not because they were illegal immigrants or fake doctors; we arrested them because they were using fake and unregistered drugs on our territory and NAFDAC entered the premises where we have reasonable ground to believe that somebody was dispensing fake and unregistered medicines.

“We have sealed up the illegal clinic. As to whether that clinic will be reopened is the job of the Ministry of Health, but we will deal with any such premises where fake drugs are distributed and destroy such drugs, seal off such premises and make arrest”, he said.

On his part, the deputy director of the Kaduna unit, Mr. Ahemen Innocent, who led the team for the arrest, said: “We were on surveillance visit to Pambeguwa on a tip-off that there were some people dealing in Chinese drugs and selling to the public, and they were unregistered Chinese drugs.”
