NDLEA intercepts N25m heroine at MMIA
Headlines, NDLEA (Anti-Drug Agency) Monday, May 16th, 2011The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, weekend, intercepted six female hand bangs containing 2.300kg of high grade heroin into the country at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA.
It was gathered that the seized drugs, with street value of about N25 million was discovered during the inward screening of Emirate passengers from Bombay. The six brown female hand bags contained parcels of brown powdery substances that tested positive for heroin.
A source, told Vanguard that an arrest was made in connection with the seizure. “We successfully apprehended the owner of the luggage where the drug was found. The seizure was made during routine physical examination of goods. Investigation has commenced and the suspect is helping with useful information,” the source added.
Meanwhile the Chairman of the Agency, Ahmadu Giade, described the seizure as a warning signal to drug trafficking syndicates in the country, he stressed that Nigeria was prepared to halt their sinister activities. According him, “we are going to resist all attempts by drug barons to import narcotics into the country. The rising profile of our great country is important to us and we are prepared to resist any attempt to smear our reputation.”wp_posts
