(NNP) Nigeria opened their account at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cameroon with a 1-0 defeat of seven-time African champion, Egypt. A convincing strike with the left foot inside the 18-yard box by Kelechi Iheanacho in the 30th minute was all that was needed to contain the Pharaohs. In a match that was dubbed the fight of the continental heavy weights, Nigeria emerged the better side with many wasted opportunities in front of goal. Egypt’s celebrated attacker for Liverpool, Mo Salah couldn’t deliver the goods as he was well marked by Nigerian defenders and hardly given the room to operate. Nigeria will face another North Africa foe, Sudan on Saturday in its second group match.
