Nigerian Army sacks soldier for leaking video of Borno IED attack

By Doris Ijeoma IsraelThe Nigerian Army has sacked a soldier for allegedly leaking a video linked to a deadly Boko Haram improvised explosive device attack in Borno State. The dismissed soldier was identified as Mansur Adamu, with service number 22NA/82/3795 PTE. Military sources told Sahara Reporters that the soldier was punished after a video recorded at the scene of the blast near Gubio surfaced online. Naija News reports that the explosion, which happened about two weeks ago, killed several soldiers who were on duty in the area. According to reports, the soldier who filmed the incident was identified and removed from service. The source said the army treats any internal leak as a serious offence and dismisses anyone found sharing secret information. A photo showed him holding a placard bearing his name and number after his dismissal. At least nine soldiers died after Boko Haram fighters planted explosive devices along a route near Gubio. The soldiers were said to be travelling from Maiduguri when their vehicle hit the IED. The explosives were reportedly planted by Boko Haram insurgents. Several soldiers were badly injured in the blast, and some later died from their wounds. Eight soldiers died the day after the attack, while another died the following morning. The affected troops were from 145 Damasak under 5 Brigade in Maiduguri, Borno State.
