PORT HARCOURT — RIVERS State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service is to repatriate 106 illegal immigrants to their respective countries.
Comptroller of the Command, Mr. Mike Longe, Monday, during the ongoing immigrants verification exercise taking place at the Command Headquarters, Port Harcourt, said the number of those affected could be more as the exercise was a continues one.
Longe said: “There is a change in leadership at high command of the immigrations, which had directed strict monitoring, arrest and repatriation of illegal immigrants. Based on the directive, we are screening immigrants and those lacking requisite papers to stay in the country will be repatriated to their countries. We don’t know how many we will be repatriated after the exercise, but 106 illegal immigrants already screened will soon be repatriated.”
The 106, according to him, include Gabonese, Ghanaians, Cameroonians and Niger nationals.
He said: “We have evidence that most atrocities are being committed by foreigners in the country and I am confident this exercise will reduce our security challenges.”
