No plans to sanction Babangida, Atiku, Gusau, Ciroma- PDP
Ibrahim Babangida (1985-93), Latest Politics, Party Politics, Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), Presidency Tuesday, April 26th, 2011HE Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP said Tuesday that it has no plans to sanction former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, ex- minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma for anti-party activities.
In a statement signed Tuesday by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali, the party was also not anticipating same for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex- National Security Adviser, General Mohammed Aliyu Gusau for any anti-party activities, just as it stressed that the concern of the party now is how to win elections at all levels.
According to the statement, ”Our attention has been drawn to rumours going around in the media in the past few days of a decision of the National Working Committee of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party to sanction General Ibrahim Babangida, Alhaji Aliyu Gusau and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
” It may be recalled that they were several reports in the media which said that members of the Party’s National Working Committee planned to sanctions our former Presidential Candidates for anti Party.”
Alkali who noted that there was no time the National Working Committee, NWC at its meeting take any decision to sanction or punish the trio for anti Party activities, said, ”the concern of the party at the moment is to win election at all levels and therefore will not be distracted from its main focus.
”In the event that the party finds it necessary to look at the activities of its members before and during the general elections, there are procedures and appropriate channels for taking such actions.
