Nollywood distress: Actor’s leg amputated

Just as Nollywood fans heaved a sigh of relief over veteran Enebeli Elebuwa’s steady recovery from stroke-related complications, another Thespian,  Pete Eneh, famous for his ‘fatherly’ roles in Nollywood films, has had one of his legs recently amputated by doctors at Parklane Hospital, Enugu.

Eneh’s travails began last year, after he sustained an injury that later led to a serious infection, thereby making treatment near impossible.

Feelers from his doctors show that the injury degenerated to a sore, which was further compounded by the fact that the actor was diabetic. He spent three months at the hospital before he was advised to get the leg amputated to reduce the risk of the infection spreading to other parts of his body.

The amputation took place on Wednesday, October 24 after efforts to save the leg was unsuccessful. The actor, who is often cast as Patience Ozukwu aka Mama Gee’s husband in movies,  is said to be taking the situation in his stride.

Eneh’s plight brings to the fore, the worsening health condition of some Nollywood practitioners, whose circumstances are generally compounded by financial constraints.

Only last year, the health condition of  Elebuwa of ‘Andrew is checking out’ fame deteriorated after he suffered a stroke. Shortly after, a number of highly publicised pictures and videos of the actor alleged to have been healed by controversial Lagos based pastor, Sign Freeman, surfaced online.

Then the accusation game followed after the actor claimed that his’ purported healing was false and the preacher replied claiming that Elebuwa did not have ‘enough faith to carry his healing.’

Thankfully, the Delta State-born actor, whose first movie role was in Sanya Dosunmu’s 1974 celluloid film, Dinner with the Devil, calmed frayed nerves in a statement credited  to him. He is said to have spoken from India, where he says he is getting better.

While Enebelli’s story took a good turn, it is the opposite for Ngozi Nwosu, who is said to be battling a kidney disease. Indeed, a magazine came up with a damning report linking the problem to HIV.

Also, recent reports say the actress famous for her role as ‘Peacefull Peace’ in the Amaka Igwe’s soap, Fuji House of Commotion, has tentatively relocated to Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

According to sources close to Nwosu, the decision to move to the French speaking country is due to mounting pressure on her from fans all ever since the news of her deteriorating health condition was brought to the fore.wp_posts
