Oliseh to NFF: Return Eagles to Lagos

BY MONICA IHEAKAM

Ex-International , Sunday Oliseh has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to return the Super Eagles to the Na¬tional Stadium, Lagos.
The former national team captain in an interview with Brila FM , stated that the secret of returning Eagles to their winning ways is by bringing them back home to the fortress of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
According to the ex- Borrusia Dortmund star, tremendous fan base in Lagos and the pressure they put on the players is a tonic that spur them to get results whenever they face opponents in the huge stadium arena.
“ I played for Nige¬ria for 10 years and we never lost at the Nation¬al Stadium. That shows you how mythical it was to play there, Oliseh began.
“It’s a lot easier now to play for Nigeria and I guess that is one of the reasons we are not doing so well now. In those days, you go to the National Stadium, Lagos in front 100, 000 fans and after 20 minutes, you have not scored, the fans go crazy and your family lives in Lagos, that is pressure.
“When you go to the Africa Cup of Nations or the World Cup and you know that second is not enough, that is pressure.
“When you have to play and the future of your family is at stake; that is pressure and our players need that kind of atmosphere to perform.
“If England have an important match to play, they go to Wem¬bley because that is where they have the greatest number of fans and that is where it becomes emotional for the players. The National Stadium is our own Wembley.
“I am telling the NFF , that if we want to go back to the top, they need to bring the Super Eagles back to Lagos.
..As Rabiu Ibrahim okays Kaduna Stadium
Super Eagles midfielder Rabiu Ibrahim has backed the Nigeria Football Fed¬eration over their choice of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, as a venue for the next Nigeria AFCON 2017 home game against Egypt.
There has been wide spread criticism over the choice of Kaduna as a venue for the game with some questioning the secu¬rity situation in Northern Nigeria and some are also worried the weather won’t be favourable for the Nige¬rian players based abroad.
However the AS Trencin midfielder who made his debut for Nigeria in their 2-0 win over Chad at the same venue said criticism over the venue is over¬board, as they are only focused on doing well re¬gardless of where the game is played in Nigeria.
“Our aim is to win and win well regardless of where the game is played in Kaduna, personally I know that some of my teammates are very happy that we are returning to Kaduna to play, myself included” He told News24.
On expectations ahead of the game the 24 year old said their focus is on their next game against Tanzania, before they think about their game against fellow group leaders Egypt. ‘One game at a time, after the Tanzania game we can switch focus to Egypt but, for now Tanzania is our most important task espe¬cially because we will be playing away from home.”
