Opinion: Soyinka wants to scatter Nigeria

Class, you’re not going to like this. I was half way transcribing the
torrents of texts that trailed the publication of last week when guess what?
Something happened – technology failed me. The phone crashed. It wiped away most
of your reactions to the story.
Traditionally, for fairness and all, I
usually try to transcribe from bottom up, to accommodate earlier to earliest
responses. For one strange reason, the transcription started from up towards the
last when that unexpected happened. Hope you bear with me, and the unforeseen
hands of technology.
Second, I would love to use this chance to inform
you that I have been conducting the lectures the past four weeks far away from
Havensgate – where I live in Nigeria. I have been in Washington DC. That
explains the reason I’ve repeatedly asked you send your responses to 080 330
96744 – my telephone line that roams. It had borne the burden of torrential
texting until it caved in on me Tuesday morning.
Here then are some of
the responses (the lasts became the firsts and the firsts left out. Such is
life) to the story of last week vide: “Soyinka wants to scatter Nigeria.” Do not
forget to be in school next Monday, when we will discuss the wretched lives of
minorities everywhere, especially in Nigeria! Read on.
Wole Soyinka has
always been greatly misunderstood by the generality of the people, what with his
unique deployment of words. Such was the fate of Christ in most of his sermons
too! But with Soyinka, the truth is inescapable. Your quote from WS simply means
a need for urgency on the part of “the constituent parts” to agitate for
resource control thereby curtailing the excessive powers of the over-bloated
center. And except you are a diehard apologist for the current ill structured
federal system, nothing is more needful than that WS’s suggestion. No attempt is
being made by him at incitement, sedition or “scatter” – whatever that means.

Sir, as a northerner from Kano,
I will like Nigeria to separate (go) in peace. This is the opinion of millions
in the north, especially, the youth. 08025080015
Good day. The Professor
Soyinka idea of each region championing the management of their own resources
could be a strategic way of attaining an optimal economic stand, even as the
country exists as one entity. Government should be more articulate and
integrated in its operation given the precarious nature of the nation. Remigius
Nwamu – Imo State. 08037769053.
We have lived a pretentious life as a
people for 98 years. For how long are we going to shy away from talking to
ourselves? What informed the peaceful disintegration of the USSR, Yugoslavia and
Czechoslovakia? The British joined us to take advantage of us and left us with
mentality of a superior being to a certain section for the purpose of continuous
exploitation. Now the reality is dawning on us. We must talk to ourselves and
the heaven will not fall. Hey, and should it fall because of our intransigence,
the earth is there to take care. The benefits shall be unquantifiable. Ugo –
Badagry, 08053535318
Nigeria has been a business with diminishing returns
and there are two reasons, in my view for this. 1. The scavengers that benefit
from the rotten system control the larger uninformed crowds which are used as
willing tools to self-assigned “PROTECTORS” of national unity knowing that if
the business forecloses, they are in soup. 2. The white man. He had always had
problems FORCING his will on the BLACKMAN. The Igbo man from Olauda Equaino the
slave, to King Jaja, to Eze Onyeama of Eke , to Zik, to Ojukwu 1 and to Ojukwu
II, to Biafra, to mention but a few.
The Igbo man was the greatest
obstacle to him (Oyinbo man) in Black Africa. Biafra’s achievements heightened
the fear. Listen to this secret document the white man wrote of the Igbo titled:
“To stop the Igbo man.” “He (the Igbo man) must not be allowed to control
himself, or allowed to unleash the giant within which will make the white man
talk about the black man with respect.” Nigeria provided the right tool to
destroy the Igbo man from within. Igbo locally made rockets travelled more than
those of the Soviets in the beginning. Within Nigeria, the Igbo man will never
attain, talk less unleash his potentials. Nigeria should scatter. Chidi Ugwu,

Peace or in pieces? This is a funny saying by a
people who did nothing to change things when the nation was not this
sophisticated. This nation called Nigeria has come to stay. We should all help
to build it. The elite are the problem. The real Nigerians need food, shelter
and security. A people with these thoughts will not pursue personal agenda to
promote their name. Support is only what is needed to move forward. Asadu,
Romanus Abuja 08032914081
The feds should use the SSS to arrest Adamu Ciroma
now! He, it was who boasted that Nigeria will be made ungovernable.

I can’t recall when A. Ciroma mentioned core north in the
statement he was purported to have made. Our southern brothers tend to resort to
some dangerous propaganda that tends to worsen the already existing distrust
among the ethnic groups in the country. If you people want to go your way, you
may do that in peace and stop making all the noise. Besides, GEJ is the C-in-C.
You may do well advise him to arrest A. Ciroma and co, since protesting against
an opportunistic leader who breached a zoning agreement he signed, has become an
offense. Question: Didn’t those southern PDP leaders know zoning was
unconstitutional before appending their signature to it? How come someone who
cannot keep a simple agreement, lead and have the trust of his subjects?

Nigeria is already in pieces based on the reality on the
ground. Is it Professor Soyinka that caused it? That strike must go on. I will
be there, life and direct. 080852626505.
Peace, be with you, Godson. What
will bring peace in Nigeria is separation. Let every part be – on their own.
That’s the only solution to the Nigerian problem. 08065598124 We will occupy
Nigeria again. After this time, Nigeria will never be the same again. We the SNG
in South Africa are coming to join WS and T. Bakare. We will lay down our lives
to achieve results. +27738250263
We are better off a united Nigeria,
nationally and internationally. Let’s think of a better administrative formula
to cement this unity. 08022051108
I disagree with your chosen title. Prof
and his group are pushing the government to do what is right and best for the
citizens and the country. In the same way, I agree with your submission on those
who boasted that they will make the country ungovernable still moving about
freely. I believe the weakness and ineptitude of the President is to be blamed
for this. olonirt@yahoo.com 08136359709
We are solidly behind WS.
Whatever he says stands! He placed the interest of every family at the center of
his thoughts. Let’s build a better home for our kids.
08034710913.
Godson, WS, wants to settle Nigeria, not to scatter her.
Lugard’s incubated Nigeria should go in peace. Let the British domination end
for good. 08063504973.
If WS wants Nigeria to scatter, fine! But let him
remember that he can’t bring shame to Jonathan’s administration; rather, he may
ruin his integrity and respect. He should withdraw such an assignment for peace
and unity to stay. Breaking up of Nigeria will not offer us a degree of
progress. Soyinka should support GEJ to plan and build. Peace and unity is my
prayer for the country. Prophet Achumie Chika Prosper. 08030715063
