Oshiomhole accuses PDP of plot to rig Edo guber polls

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN— GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, yesterday, raised an alarm, alleging that Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has perfected plans to rig the July 14, 2012 governorship election in the state.

He said: “They are preparing National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, uniform so they can dress some young men as NYSC members.

They have assured their supporters that they will determine the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, to be posted to Edo State who will help them to rig the election. Some of their candidates have said they will use the Army.

“My only reply is that we rely on Edo people and God. The man with the people is also with God. I am a very happy person today because of what God has used me to achieve.”

However, in a swift reaction, state chairman of PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, described the allegation as “unfounded, baseless and laughable.”

He said: “It has dawn on the Governor that planting flowers in the name of beautification and award of contracts without due process, coupled with cosmetic painting of existing schools, will not save him from the July 14 election. He should stop crying wolf where there is none.”

Oshiomhole raised the alarm during the inspection of the on-going construction of Umogbai-Ogenemih road project in Jattu and the Iyekhe-Aviele road in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, members of the communities and Igbo residing in the projects area endorsed him for a second term.

On the tirade against his administration by Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, a PDP governorship aspirant, during his declaration last Saturday, Governor Oshiomhole said: “A nice professor keeping bad company will end up doing what he is doing now— putting the truth upside down.

“To be honest, he is the best aspirant in PDP compared to all those cashiers or those who cannot even have one genuine certificate. He is more educated, more civil but he is hopelessly incompetent. That is the truth.

“And because of the bad company he keeps, he has learnt one thing from them, which is ‘thou shall not say the truth’. It is the opposite of the 10 Commandments of God.

Otherwise, even in Esanland, there is the road from Udenema to Anenih’s village. Will you say that road is not connecting communities?

“We are building both intra-city and inter-city roads. My only appeal to my friend, Prof. Osunbor, is that he should not allow the company he keeps influence him.

“If he cannot influence them to behave responsibly, he should not allow them to influence him to begin to behave irresponsibly.”
