Oshiomhole breaks silence, speaks on successor

EDO State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday broke his silence over his position on the choice of his successor as he told members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state that while he would ensure there are primaries, he, however, would not be indifferent to the choice of his successor from the lot that arejostling for the party’s gubernatorial ticket.

There would be primaries according to our constitution but I cannot be neutral in matters that affect my environment,” he said.

The governor dismissed the insinuation that he wanted to install a puppet as successor when he told his party faithful, “there is no need to pretend nobody is controlling me and I cannot control anybody and only a fool can think that you are going to have a governor that you can control.”

There have been rumours that he was backing the chairman of his Economic team, Godwin Obaseki, to succeed him as governor.

Oshiomhole added: “What I believe I owe my party is to explain to them the qualities of the governor we require. I believe we need someone who believes that Edo State deserves to continue to prosper. I believe we need a governor who will see the three senatorial districts as his constituency regardless of the one he comes from. I believe we need a governor who has capacity at this time to see beyond going to Abuja for allocation because there is not much available in Abuja now.”
