Oshiomhole warns on sale of voter card
Edo, State News Wednesday, July 4th, 2012THE campaign organisation of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has alerted the people of Edo State to plan by some politicians to buy voter card from the electorate in the state, charging them to resist such overture.
The organisation, in a release made available to newsmen, said despite repeated calls on people of the state not to sell their voter cards, some desperate politicians in the state had intensified their plot to mop up voter cards by inducing the people with cash gifts and, in some cases, invoking the name of the governor as their sponsor, with the sole aim of deceiving the people.
“The general public, especially registered voters in the state are advised to ignore these politicians and are reminded that voting is a civic responsibility.
“While we note that it is both a criminal and electoral offence to buy or sell the voter card, we are equally concerned that the cards so procured may be used for other criminal purposes, thus putting the original owners in trouble.
“We are aware that some highly placed individuals are involved in this unwholesome criminal act and we wish to warn that the security agencies have been given clear instructions to bring anyone found culpable to book, no matter how highly-placed the offender is.”
