Starting January 1, 2025, Android devices running on KitKat or older operating systems will no longer support WhatsApp, according to a report by IOL. This decision by Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, aims to enhance security and improve app functionality. Meta stated that the move is driven by the app’s evolving innovations, including encryption updates, multi-device support, new video calling features, and AI functionalities, which require more modern hardware and software to function effectively. “Older devices struggle to support new features and can’t protect user data effectively as technology advances,” Meta explained. Without necessary software and security updates, these devices become more vulnerable to cyber threats, while app functionality also diminishes.
