About 106 capsules of methamphetamine were discovered to have been ingested by Anthony Jideuno  when he tried to board a flight to Malaysia on Egypt Air at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, last week.

Sources said a narcotic scanning machine at the departure hall of the airport detected the hard drugs hidden in his stomach.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency commander at the airport, Mr. Ambrose Umoru, confirmed the incident.

Umoru said, “The suspect is cooperating with our team of investigators. He has made useful revelations and we hope to apprehend others and even the drug baron connected to the crime,” Umoru stated.

A total of 106 capsules of granulated substances that tested positive for , weighing 1.640kg, were excreted by the suspect during observation.

In his defence, Anthony said, “I had no collateral to access a bank loan to start a business. There was no money for me to start my business. It is not my desire to go into crime but I was frustrated. I regret getting involved in drugs.

“It is my fault and I take responsibility for my action. I was promised $3,000 in exchange for transporting the drugs into Malaysia. I swallowed 106 capsules of the drug because they said that the number I am able to ingest will determine the amount of money  I will be paid.”

The Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, commended the officers that arrested the suspect.

He said, “I am pleased with the arrest and even more so that the suspect successfully excreted the 106 wraps of narcotics. He would have been dead if there was a leakage in the wraps. Many have died in the process. We shall continue to educate members of the public to shun drug trafficking and contribute to the growth and development of the country.”
