Police arrest S/South indigene Boko Haram suspect in Kano
Boko Haram, Kano, Latest Politics, South-South, State News Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012ANOTHER breakthrough was recorded by the Kano State police command, on Monday, when a member of the Boko Haram sect, Augustine Effiong (a.k.a Abubakar Garba), 25, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, was arrested in connection with the recent attack in Bayero University, Kano (BUK), where no fewer than 30 Christians were killed during a church service.
The suspect was born and brought up in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he was converted to Islam.
He had been trans-ferred to Abuja for investi-gations, according to the police.
This was contained in a statement signed on Monday by the state Com-missioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune.
The statement said Effiong had confessed to be one of those behind the recent attacks on Chri-stians at BUK.
The police boss added that during the preliminary investigation, the suspect, a resident of Bulunkutu Abuja Quarters in Maidu-guri, confessed to have relocated to Kano in April.
The suspect was also said to have participated in series of attacks and killings of policemen and military personnel in the state, in the wake of crisis in Kano early this year.
The command said Effiong was arrested over an attempt to murder a civilian at Danlasan village, in Warawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
