Police foil armed robbery in Jigawa
Headlines, Jigawa, Nigerian Police, State News Monday, July 2nd, 2012THE Jigawa State police command at the weekend foiled arm robbery attempt targeted at a prominent GSM dealer in Dutse.
Reports from the state indicated that one of the suspects had been arrested. Two others were said to have escaped.
Confirming the incident to Nigerian Tribune, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Theopholus, said that the robbers were from Katsina State, based on information.
He said that the robbers, who arrived the city at around 2:30p.m, attacked a shop where GSM cell phones were sold and attempted to rob one Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed.
Mr Theophilus maintained that when the shop owner, Alhaji Ya’u, shouted for help, the people around drew the attention of policemen
nearby who acted promptly.
He added that his men succeeded in aborting the robbery and arrested one of the suspects. The commissioner of police said his men recovered a raffle and 30 live ammunition from the suspect him, saying other two suspects escaped.
“The suspect, who gave his identity as Ikira Ibrahim from Kofar Kaura in Katsina State is currently in police custody and is assisting our men in carrying out investigation,” he added that
“When investigation is completed, the suspect would be transferred to zonal headquater in Kano for further action,” he said.
The commissioner then urged the people of the state to always inform police about any strange person or group of people, adding that “my men are always ever ready to respond any emergency call”.
He assured them that his command was in collaboration with other security agencies.
He saidg they were working around the clock to ensure protection of lives and properties in the state.
