Politicians plan to import thugs from Niger Delta
Ebonyi, Headlines, Niger Delta Saturday, December 25th, 2010The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) yesterday alleged plans by politicians to import thugs from the Niger Delta into the state to disrupt the party’s primaries in January.
Addressing members of the Ebonyi Youth Assembly in Abakaliki, the youth leader and president of the body, Comrade Chinedu Ogah, said there are plans by desperate politicians to use thugs to create tension in the state.
Ogah said the Assembly has mobilised its members across the state to report any suspicious person to the Police.
He urged the State Police Command and State Security Service (SSS) to secure lives and property of people.
He condemned campaigns of calumny, character assassination and violence.
“It is unfortunate that politicians in the state now resort to campaign of calumny, blackmail, backbiting, character assassination and violence instead of issue-based campaign. It is regrettable that while the Police and the State Security Service are making efforts to maintain peace and order, politicians are scheming on how to disrupt the peace and security in the State”.
“We urge the Nigeria Police, the SSS and other security agencies in the State to brace up to the challenge ahead of the primaries slated for January. It is our prayer that there would be peace before, during and after next year’s general elections. We don’t want any breakdown of law and order”, he said.
Ogah warned members of the Assembly to desist from acts capable of disrupting the peace, stressing that erring members would be prosecuted by the law enforcement agents.
Police spokesman ASP John Eluu said the Police is not aware of such plans.
Eluu urged citizens of the state to go about their normal duties as the Command is ready to rid the State of criminals.wp_posts
