Primate’s wife, others task women on security challenges

THE wife of the Primate, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Mrs Nkasiobi Okoh, has charged women to cry unto God and trust Him for divine solution over Nigeria’s security situation.

Okoh gave the charge at the maiden Archdeaconry women’s conference of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Abuja, which ended on Sunday.

The conference had the theme: “they that know their God shall be strong and do exploits.”

Represented by Mrs Uche Okpuno, the wife of the Supervising Priest of All Saints Church, Wuse Zone 5, Okoh reminded women of their critical responsibilities in the home, church and society at large.

She, therefore, urged them to discharge their duties with absolute faith in God.

“Women are important in the life of the church, because women saw the Lord first after his resurrection.

“Women, make yourselves available for God to use you and you will be amazed at your reward,’’ she said.

Mrs Grace Oluwarohunbi, wife of the vicar of the cathedral, called on the Federal Government to take steps to end the bombing of churches in some parts of the country.

Oluwarohunbi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that many children had become orphans, just as many women were made widows due to the incessant killings.

“In our present day Nigeria, Christians are persecuted and killed almost on daily basis. Churches are bombed almost every Sunday and innocent blood spilled.

“Many children have lost their parents and women have lost their husbands and innocent children destroyed in these mindless killings,’’ she said.

In a separate interview, a cleric, Venerable Syvenius Okoriko, one of the priests in the church, urged women to make it a point of duty to pray for peace to reign in Nigeria.

He urged the women to continue to be generous to the under-privileged in society, noting that “there is a reward in heaven for every work being done on earth.”

On the bombing of churches and killing of Christians, he urged all Christians not to retaliate, stressing that the Bible did not encourage such action.
