Rio 2016 Olympics: Go for Musa, Ambrose, Ighalo

  • Adepoju, Lawal tell Siasia

FROM ROMANUS UGWU, ABUJA

NIGERIAN former internationals, Mutiu Adepoju and Garba Lawal, have urged Dream Team VI chief coach, Samson Siasia, to select the mandatory three overage players to beef up his squad for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games from the like of Ogeni Onazi, John Mikel Obi, Ahmed Musa, Efe Ambrose and Odion Ighalo.

Speaking in separate telephone chats with Daily Sunsports the ex-internationals noted that Siasia would need to strengthen the team ahead of the Rio 2016 campaign.

Although Adepoju cautiously declined mentioning the names Siasia should go for, he said the coach must take a second look at his defense line.

Lawal who was more forthcoming in his comment urged the coach to look in the direction of Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa, Efe Ambrose and Odion Ighalo.

While arguing that Mikel may not like to participate again having been there previously, Lawal stressed that Siasia should go for players who on current form are hot.

“Siasia must start preparations immediately and essentially, he must pencil down the three overage players he wants to invite to be part of the team so that he can monitor them. He must have those in plan A and plan B because we all also know that injury and the current form of the players will be a factor. If I should advise him on the players to pick, I believe that players like Ahmed Musa who will operate from the flank, Ambrose to strengthen his defense and Ighalo to make the attack have more bite.”

Adepoju simply noted: “I won’t be able to mention the three names or advice Siasia on the players he should pick for the Olympic Games. The situation is dependent on many factors, injury being one of them and club commitment too. All I can say is that Siasia will need the overage players in the defense, midfield and attack.”
