Sea pirates kill 2 in Bayelsa, kidnap 2 Agip workers

Suspected sea pirates have attacked and killed two passengers at Ekowe, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. This is even as another gang of suspected sea-pirates have kidnapped two senior staff of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) along Ogbia / Brass River.
Investigations revealed that the passenger boat was approaching Ekowe when the sea-pirates emerged from the creeks and shot severally at the boat.
Two people died instantly while others including the driver dived into the water to escape from the pirates.
The sea-pirates reportedly searched the boat and collected valuables left behind and also took along with them the bodies of the two people killed.
Some passengers in other boats who witnessed the attack and had to turn back reported the matter to the Joint Task Force( JTF) military check points.
A security source said the report of the attack has been received and operatives from the marine department of the Police have been deployed to the area.
Meanwhile, two senior staff of Agip Oil company travelling along the Ogbia- Brass River have been kidnapped by sea-pirates.
Eye-witness account said the sea-pirates attacked the boat their victims were travelling in and robbed every passenger on board.
They were said to have taken over the boat from the driver and dropped the passengers at Nembe, but whisked the two Agip staff away. The passengers said the sea-pirates were armed with sophisticated weapons and covered their faces with masks. An environmentalist, Mr Morris Alagoa has called on the authorities to arrest the increasing wave of sea-pirates attack in Bayelsa State.
According to him, pirate attack along the water ways in Bayelsa is a daily occurrence which needs to be seriously checked.
