Six Guber Candidates Step down For Gbemi in Kwara

The chances of sweeping the polls in Kwara state at the April general elections by the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has become brighter following the defection yesterday of the chairmen, gubernatorial candidates, members of six opposition parties and their supporters in the state to the ACPN. The parties are the Labour Party, National Transformation Party, National Conscience Party, Africa Renaissance Party, Democratic Alternative, and the Republic Party of Nigeria. The decision was announced at a joint briefing where the candidates and chairmen of the parties are present. Giving reasons for the action, the spoke person of the defectors, Comrade Noah Olawale of Democratic Alternate said the decision was made after critically viewing the popularity of the gubernatorial candidate of the ACPN, Sen. Gbemi Saraki as well as the fatherly role the founder of the ACPN, Dr. Olushola Saraki has been playing in the state. According to the defecting candidate’s spokesperson, the decision was taken after due consultation with party members who he said could not hide their love and affection for the ACPN gubernatorial candidate. “Information reaching us from the grassroots indicate that the ACPN gubernatorial candidate’s popularity could not be rivalled, this, coupled with the respect all Kwarans have for the founder of the party, made us to commune with our party members and the result of that consultation is that we have all decided to join the wining team” Speaking further, he confessed that the contestants saw it as an affront and greatest height of disrespect “opposing the person of Oloye at the polls considering his fatherly figure and the sacrifice he has made to make Kwara what it is today, so going to confront him at the polls against the wish of Kwarans is not what we can afford to do, hence we have declared our support for the candidature of Senator Gbemi Saraki” The ACPN he further submitted “is the party for the progressives and we have utmost confidence in whatever step Oloye is taking as far as the welfare of Kwarans is concerned. “ He is tested and confirmed to be a sincere leader who will never lead us astray, so we see our decision to step down for the ACPN candidate as a sacrifice we can do to make the wish of the people of Kwara come into manifestation without us becoming the stumbling block, hence our decision to align with the wish of the people, and we are going to submit ourselves to the directives of Oloye because of our belief in him and the ACPN as a party and its gubernatorial candidate’s capabilities to perform as the governor of our dear statewp_posts
