Soldier, policeman, 5 others killed in Boko Haram attack

Seven people including a soldier, a policeman and five others died yesterday in a fresh attack on a military formation in Borno by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram. According to sources, the gunmen had launched the attack on the 21 Brigade troops’ located at Marte, Marte Local Government Area in the northern part of the state Wednesday afternoon.
Confirming the incident, spokesman of the military Joint Task Force (JTF), Lt-Col Sagir Musa, said the gunmen came at about 2pm. “This is to confirm that at about 2 pm yesterday (Wednesday), January 2, 2013, gunmen attacked 21 Brigade troops’ location at Marte, Marte Local Government Area in the Northern part of Borno State. In the process, one soldier, one police personnel and five gunmen lost their lives during an exchange of fire. No civilian casualty was recorded.
“Items recovered are two AK-47 rifles, one locally-made double barrel gun, three magazines loaded with 35 rounds of assorted ammunition, one dane gun and machetes,” he said.
