Soldier shoots police corporal in Aba during argument
Abia, Armed Forces, State News Monday, May 14th, 2012An army captain has allegedly shot and wounded a police corporal while
another sustained bruises over an argument. The incident happened in Aba, the
commercial hub of Abia State.
Daily Sun gathered that one Corporal Sunday
Adamu of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Base 4, Mgboko, near Aba, who was in
mufti had gone to a phone booth at the Obikabia junction to buy recharge card.
At the phone booth, an argument was said to have ensued between Adamu
and another young man who was later identified as an army captain. The latter,
whose name could not be immediately ascertained and was also in mufti was
reported to have slapped the former.
A bewildered Adamu retaliated the
slap and at the behest of the said army captain, a soldier on uniform who
mounted a nearby military armoured personnel carrier (APC) and was watching the
incident, jumped down with his gun and allegedly shot the policeman on the right
thigh and inflicted bruises on another, Corporal Friday Labija.
A policeman
who did not want his name in print told our correspondent that it was wrong for
soldiers drafted to the state to help in providing security to turn their guns
on innocent citizens.
“The other time, it was reported that a soldier
killed a civilian in Aba and just last week, they shot one of our men, but these
are people that are supposed to cooperate with us in providing security in the
city. We suffered much here during the kidnap era and we should not now be paid
in this coin. “The soldier has come to say he never knew his victim was a
policeman. If that were to be the case, then he was licensed to kill civilians,”
he said fuming.
