Soldiers retaliate, kill 60 insurgents

No fewer than 60 insurgents were confirmed killed on Wednesday night during exchange of gunfire with the Joint Military Task Force at Lamba Forest in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The gun duel was confirmed by the spokesman of the state Governor, Malam Umar Kyari, in Dutse the Jigawa State capital.
The suspected Boko Haram insurgents were said to have planted a bomb on the road in the forest on Monday night, which exploded and hit a JTF hilux convoy, leading to the death of three soldiers while many others sustained serious injuries.
Reacting to the attack, the JTF team popularly known as “Operation Salama” in the state, was said to have bombarded the forest, during which the insurgents were felled.
“At about 11pm on wednesday, the military commander, who led the operation, told the state governor that over 60 corpses of the insurgents were found scattered in the forest,” Kyari said.
