SSS Kills Man for Breaching Checkpoint Protocol in Kano

Members of the State Security Service (SSS) in Kano on Tuesday shot dead a middle aged man at a check point close to the headquarters of the service office, for allegedly defying the normal check point protocol.

The man identified as Zaharadeen Musa Mohammad was driving a Toyota Corolla car. He carried  his brother Usman Mohammed Musa who sustained injury from the gunshots and two other women. The survivor, Usman Mohammed is now receiving treatment at an un-disclosed hospital in the state capital.

An Eyewitness said the deceased might have defied protocol as he approached the checkpoint on top speed.  The security operatives were uncomfortable with this opened fire on the car. He was hit in the chest  and died while his brother got hit in the hand.

The incident occurred yesterday evening when vehicles were stopped for the routine search being conducted by the SSS team near their office in Giginyu quarters in Badawa GRA of Kano metropolis.

Spokesman of the Joint military task force (JTF) Lieutenant Ikedichi Iweha told reporters that “It’s the SSS that shot the person, not the JTF , and it occurred when the driver of the car Zaharadeen Mohammed Musa and his brother defied the usual check point protocol and drove his car towards the SSS office on high speed”.

“We always advise people to obey the law and respect the usual protocol anytime they are at the check point, but defiance by some individuals always cause a lot of security threat and breach of the law”, the JTF spokesman said.

He called on the people in the state to always respect the rules, adding that avoiding checking point will raise suspicion and cause a lot of problem. “So people should respect the protocol at the check point,” he emphasised.

Lieutenant Ikedichi who was emphatic that the killing was not done by the JTF said it was done by the SSS operatives”.
All efforts to contact the  Director of the State Security Service (SSS), Mr. Bassey Eteng for his comment, proved abortive.wp_posts
