Sultan expresses worry over divorce rate in the North
Headlines, Sultan of Sokoto Sunday, August 14th, 2011Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, at the weekend,said there was a system failure in marital institution in the North, a reason he said was responsible for the increase in as divorce cases in the region.
He therefore, urged the Muslim Ummah to respect the marriage institution and to seek knowledge on what marriage entails.
He spoke during the Ramadan lecture organised by the NTA and FRCN in Kaduna, adding that for peace and stability to reign in Nigeria, Nigerians, particularly politicians in the country, must avoid mixing religion with politics.
The Sultan, who was represented by the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubairu Jibril said: “If you are playing politics, you should not involve religion in it and you should know that Nigeria belongs to all, not Muslims or Christians alone. We have other people from other religions. We should pay attention to the poverty and illiteracy our people are subjected to and not to use religion to divide them,’’ the Sultan stated.
