Suspected cultists kill Dickson’s security aide, 1 other in Bayelsa
Bayelsa, Headlines, State News Monday, July 16th, 2012THE seeming peace in Bayelsa was shattered on Monday, as suspected cultists, armed with sophisticated weapons, unleashed terror, in Yenagoa, the state capital, when they allegedly shot to death two middle-aged men, including the security aide to Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, simply identified as “British.”
Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that the victims, who were from Ekeremor Local Government Area, were said to have been shot at close range by their assailants inside an SUV vehicle along newly-built state House of Assembly quarters, located at Azikoro village road.
Credible source informed the Nigerian Tribune that the incident, which created tension and panic around the area, occurred at about 8.45 a.m, as residents and passers-by scampered to safety to avoid being caught up in the attack.
The source hinted that men of the Nigeria Police, led by the divisional police officer (DPO) of Azikoro police station, Mrs Rita Grean, stormed the scene of the incident to supervise the removal of the corpses and their bullet-ridden Infinity Jeep marked GBJ 154 AA.
When contacted over the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Fidelis Odumma, said the police had already commenced investigation.
