Tambuwal survives impeachment plot over purchase of 400 cars
House, Latest Politics, Legislature Thursday, January 17th, 2013The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has
survived an impeachment plot over purchase of 400 Camry cars for
house standing committees.
Some section of the media had reported that some aggrieved
members are plotting to impeach the speaker alleging frauds in the
purchase of 400 cars for committees and high handedness of some
chairmen of the house standing committees.
When the house resumed plenary yesterday, members loyal to the
speaker rallied around him to water down the impeachment plot.
Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi
in a motion raised under matters of privileges stated that the
allegation was a clear design to create disharmony in the house
saying the decision to install anybody as Speaker of the House lies
with the 360 members.
Mr Bello Osagie described the allegations as “the most profound
evidence of distraction” and moved a vote of confidence motion on
the speaker. The motion was seconded by Nkeruka Onyejeocha,
Chairman of the Committee on Aviation and it was unanimously
adopted.
The speaker expressed regrets over the allegations saying they are
challenges inherent in occupying positions of representing their
people.
