U.S.: Derek Chauvin and three other officers involved in the death of George Floyd indicted on federal charges
Africa & World Politics, American Politics Friday, May 7th, 2021(NNP) Officers involved in the death of George Floyd, including convicted officer Derek Chauvin, have been indicated by a federal grand jury. The grand jury has accused the former Minneapolis police officers of violating Floyd’s constitutional rights. The murder of the Black man which was caught on cell phone camera taken by a then 17-year-old Black girl, sparked global outrage and weeks of protest in the United States and across the globe. Chauvin was convicted of all charges laid against him, including second degree murder, a conviction that carries a maximum prison sentence of 40 years. The convicted felon, Chauvin, will be sentenced in June.
